This week, Year 6s at Yarnfield Primary had an amazing time visiting William Shakespeare’s childhood home in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon.
The lucky pupils got to hear tales of Shakespeare’s family life and get up close to objects from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust’s world class collections as they discovered how the extraordinary playwright continues to shape our lives today.
In order to save the building where William Shakespeare was born a public campaign was launched, supported by Charles Dickens. The property was purchased at auction by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in 1847 for £3,000 and they have cared for it ever since.
Principal, Davinder Jandu said:
“It’s great to be out and about and able to do school trips again. I know how much children benefit from learning about a topic in an environment relevant to it and everyone had a fantastic day down in Straford Upon Avon learning about the bard!”
