The government has now clarified its initial statement around the provision of laptops for disadvantaged pupils.
The government will provide laptops for children who:
have allocated social workers
those who are care leavers
and those students in Year 10 who are disadvantaged and eligible for free school meals
We are advised that the laptops will arrive in the UK from China at the end of May, and will then be shipped out to Trusts. We will then need to configure them with the appropriate software and safeguarding measures, before distributing them to pupils. This is likely to take place from the middle of June, and we’d hope to have them with pupils by the beginning of July.
You’ll understand that the government deadlines can shift according to the efficiency of the supply chain. We will keep all eligible families informed; please DO NOT contact schools in the interim, and do not contact schools if the eligibility criteria do not apply.
