Year 2 science week

This week in Year 2, we have been looking at working scientifically. On Tuesday we talked about the questions we would like to ask the frozen person and how we could help free him/her. On Wednesday we conducted an experiment to ‘free’ the frozen person from a block of ice. In Year 2 Yellow, we tried pouring warm water over the ice and this took 1 minute to melt. In Year 2 Green, we tried pouring cold water on the ice and this took 7 minutes and 40 seconds to free the person.  Also we tried salt water to free the person and this took 1 minute and 43 seconds. In Year 2 Red, we were very careful and we used boiling water to free the person from the ice. Although this only took 20 seconds to melt, we understood that it would be very dangerous to do this to a real person as they would get burnt! On Thursday we collected our results, wrote them in a table and explained our conclusion from the results. On Friday we have looked at polar animals, described how we know they are polar animals and grouped them according to their fur, habitat or how many legs they had! All in all this was a really fun week that was enjoyed by all and we have got some incredibly scientific children in Year 2! Well done…
